External Bead Baluns - "EB" Series

General Description "EB" Series

The EB series are external bead baluns. They are constructed of a length of Teflon coaxial cable surrounded by ferrite beads. At one end of the cable is a coaxial connector that mates with a cable plug on the feed line. At the other end are wire leads to facilitate connection to a dipole or driven element. The wire leads are color-coded for ease of phasing multiple elements or antennas; white = coax center. CAL-AV Labs' baluns are vacuum impregnated and sealed against weather. The exterior surface is paintable.

Purpose

A balun's purpose is to allow connecting a BALanced load (e.g., a dipole or driven element) to an UNbalanced line, thus the name. In transmitting antennas, this is accomplished by presenting a high impedance to RF currents flowing outside the coax shield. This forces currents in each side of a driven element to be equal. This is especially important in beam antennas because it prevents distortion of the beam's pattern caused by unequal currents in the driver(s). In a simple dipole, the balun assures that the dipole, and not the feed line, is doing the radiating.

EB-1 Low Profile Balun

CAL-AV EB-1 Low Profile Balun
Continuous Coverage From 1.8 to 30 MHz

General Description
The EB-1 is an external bead balun. It is constructed of a length of Teflon coaxial cable surrounded by ferrite beads. At one end of the cable is a UHF coax connector that mates with the popular PL-259 cable-end connector; at the other end are wire leads to facilitate connection to a dipole or driven element. The wire leads are color-coded for ease of phasing multiple elements or antennas; white = coax center. CAL-AV Labs' baluns are vacuum impregnated and sealed against weather. The exterior surface is paintable. Click on the image for an enlargement.

EB-1 Specifications
Length: 14 inches.
Freq. range: 1.8 through 30 MHz.
Rated Power: 2.5KW CW; 3KW PEP.
See data sheet for derating details.

EB-2 Low Profile, High-Band Balun

CAL-AV EB-2 Low Profile, High-Band Balun
Continuous Coverage From 10 to 60 MHz

General Description
The EB-2 is an external bead balun.

EB-2 Specifications
Length: 8.3 inches.
Freq. range: 10 through 60 MHz.
Rated Power: 2.5KW CW; 3KW PEP.
See data sheet for derating details.

EB-3 Low Profile, High-Power Balun

CAL-AV EB-3 Balun
Continuous Coverage From 7 to 30 MHz

General Description
The EB-3 is an external bead balun. It is constructed of a piece of coaxial cable surrounded by ferrite beads. At one end is a connector that mates with the DIN 7/16 cable plug on the feed line. At the other end are Teflon-insulated AWG 10 wire leads to facilitate connection to a dipole or driven element. The wire leads are color-coded for ease of phasing multiple elements or antennas. White = coax center. The exterior surface is paintable. Click on the image for an enlargement.

EB-3 Specifications
Length: 17 inches.
Freq. range: 7 through 30 MHz.
Rated Power: 10KW
See data sheet for derating details.
